Dushanbe, Tajikistan: Our Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) in Tajikistan together with the Migration Service co-organised a seminar on 25th June devoted to the organised recruitment of labour migrants through Private Employment Agencies (PEAs). The activity was supported by the EU funded project “Improving Migration Management in the Silk Routes Countries”.
The seminar was attended by the Deputy Minister of Labour, Migration and Employment of Population of the the Republic of Tajikistan Ms. Shahnoza Nodiri; Head of the Migration Service Mr. Tohir Karimzoda; staff of the departments and agencies of MoLMEP; representatives of 15 private employment agencies as well as the MRC team and a representative of the MIEUX+ initiative from ICMPD.
The discussions at the seminar revolved around the activities of the PEAs for the 2018-2021 period, touching upon the major aspects of collaboration between the Migration Service and PEAs; issues faced by labour migrants sent abroad through PEAs; as well as the barriers and other challenges related to the recruitment of Tajik citizens for employment abroad.
In addition to contributing to the organisation of the seminar, our MRC also presented the recently developed pre-departure modules which are currently undergoing revision and approval by the MoLMEP. The participants were also updated on the current activities of the MRC which include the development of country profiles and information brochures which are planned to be distributed to the relevant departments that work closely with potential migrants. All MRC activities received positive feedback from the audience and have been supplemented with recommendations provided by the Deputy Minister, Ms. Nodiri and other Migration Service staff.
The representative of the MIEUEX+ project also presented an upcoming project which will be implemented soon in cooperation with the MoLMEP and several local NGOs in Tajikistan. This will be focused on improving PEAs’ capacity building and the mechanism of cooperation between the MoLMEP and the private sector in Tajikistan.
Our Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) in Tajikistan is funded by the European Union. Work is implemented by ICMPD in collaboration with partner ministries and authorities.
