PUBLICATION: ICMPD Migration Outlook Silk Routes (South and West Asia) 2023

Vienna, Austria: The 3rd Edition of ICMPD Migration Outlook Silk Routes (South and West Asia region) was released on 9th March 2023.

In light of another intense year, migration and mobility continues to be used as an adaptation measure for people and communities within the Silk Routes (South and West Asia) region. Based on ICMPD’s local presence and expertise, this report presents an overview of the main migration trends and policy developments in 2022. The authors also highlight the top 4 issues to look out for in the region in 2023:

1. Dialogues – both multilateral and bilateral – need to deliver a balanced approach to migration management.

2. Climate change related disasters are likely in 2023 and may manifest in further displacement.

3. Urgent delivery on commitments are related to resettlement pathways.

4. Trickledown effect of Russia-Ukraine conflict on region is exacerbating underlying challenges.
