Vienna, Austria: The Swiss journal on Asylum Rights and Practices featured an article “The Humanitarian Situation in Afghanistan” (page 21), which paints a picture of the rapidly evolving humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, outlining its proximate causes and the risks facing the Afghan people in the short to medium term. The article has been authored by *Samim Ahmadi and Khyber Farahi.
In light of the Taliban takeover, economic crisis, drought, and the effects of COVID-19, Afghanistan is in a desperate situation with an estimated 23 million people experiencing high levels of acute food insecurity. 9 million Afghans are facing emergency levels of hunger, and 97% of people are falling below the poverty line.

Thus, this publication aims to serve as a guidebook for Swiss asylum officers and professionals in the field who work with Afghan refugees and asylum seekers.
