NEW POLICY BRIEF on “National Emigration and Welfare Policy for Overseas Pakistanis”

Vienna/ Islamabad: We are delighted to announce the publication of our Policy Brief “NATIONAL EMIGRATION AND WELFARE POLICY FOR OVERSEAS PAKISTANIS: Processes, Challenges and Responses for Action”.

The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (MOPHRD) finalised their policy earlier this year with technical and expert support from the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD). The process took place under the EU funded project “Improving Migration Management in the Silk Routes countries”.

This Policy Brief therefore shows the potential benefits/impact that the new national policy will have on the migration process. It also presents a situation analysis of labour emigration from Pakistan; sets out the context explaining the need for an emigration policy; and outlines the process used in drafting the Policy. Our document also highlights the challenges identified under each pillar of the Policy and provides an analysis of the policy responses. It also includes a section on ‘understanding the action plan’, followed by a brief discussion on the way forward.
