Vienna, Austria: Over the past four years our Migrant Resource Centres (MRCs) have been helping people every day to make informed decisions when considering whether to migrate. They provide outgoing, intending and potential migrants across South, West and Central Asia – as well as those that are on the move – with information on a broad range of migration-related challenges and opportunities.
And this represents only the tip of the iceberg when we consider all the work done! We have now collected information on the work of all our MRCs for the first time on the site https://www.migrantresources.org/ . This virtual hub covers seven MRCs in five countries. It introduces the concept of the Centres and provides the opportunity to visit all of them online.
Moreover, this week we would like to focus on the work of our MRC Afghanistan that has reopened its services virtually and has been running for a month to support residents of Afghanistan, as well as those who are now in the neighbouring countries and beyond. Our MRC colleagues not only provide counselling services, but also witness the desperation and the emerging humanitarian crisis in the country.
Our MRCs are implemented by International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) in close cooperation with national and local authorities. They are funded by the European Union as well as Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, New Zealand, Norway and Switzerland.
