Community outreach intervention in Pakistan

Punjab, June 2022. The Migrant Resource Centres (MRCs) in Pakistan, together with local partners and stakeholders are organising a series of community outreach interventions from June – December 2022, in the districts of Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin of Punjab.

The overall objective of these community sessions  are to sensitise and empower potential migrants, including students, to make an informed decision on migration and cognize the risks associated with irregular migration. This community sessions are part of ICMPD implemented project “Pakistan – Awareness Raising and Information Campaigns on the Risks of Irregular Migration in Pakistan (PARIM)” that aims to sensitise and empower potential migrants to make informed decisions about migration, particularly irregular migration, and in turn, contribute to reduce irregular migration towards European and other countries.

As part of the community outreach intervention, the MRCs have organised a two day training on 15- 16 June 2022 for two national community based organisations in Punjab. The training covered a diverse range of migration related topics: legal migration, migrant smuggling and human trafficking, promotion of migrants rights, role of MRCs in Pakistan, dissemination of information on migration and tools to conduct effective community outreach activities. The training also aimed to enhance migration knowledge and train participants to hold an effective awareness raising campaigns on the subject matter, as well as to disseminate information on migration in local and migration prone communities. The two partner organisations will start the community awareness sessions after the completion of the training.
