Budapest Process highlighted once again importance of the dignified return and sustainable reintegration

Istanbul, June 2022. A thematic meeting on return and reintegration was organised in the framework of the Budapest Process in Istanbul, 27 -28 June 2022.

Over the past several years, the Budapest Process has held several meetings to discuss how to facilitate a dignified return and a sustainable, inclusive, and rights-based reintegration for returnee migrants. It has highlighted the importance of return and reintegration, most notably in its 2019 adopted political declaration and action plan. Thus, the current meeting aimed to discuss the challenges and opportunities pertaining to return and reintegration, looked at lessons learned in ongoing and past programmes and made recommendations to help establish a roadmap for enhanced cooperation.

The meeting gathered 61 participants from 31 countries and organisations. As a follow up, the BP Secretariat will draft a roadmap for the project on ‘Reinforcing Return Migration, Reintegration and Development Initiatives in the Silk Routes’ – to sequence activities in a systematic manner; subsequently seek financial and operational-level support for the desired activities.
