Ohrid, May 2022. A joint meeting of the South East Europe and the Silk Routes Regional Working Groups of the Budapest Process was held in Ohrid, North Macedonia, 19 – 20 May 2022.
The meeting aimed to find mutually agreeable short and long-term Whole-of-Route solutions for contemporary migration challenges faced by Silk Routes and South East European countries. The two-day meeting focused on developing tangible actions to further enhance cooperation on return, readmission, and reintegration as well as to improve asylum systems and procedures and international protection for vulnerable groups-on-the-move. Furthermore, the meeting also focused on joint regional approach to prevent and counter smuggling of migrants and trafficking of human beings.
The meeting gathered 70 participants from 30 countries and organisations. As a follow up, the BP Secretariat will try to support closer cooperation among its network of countries, by actively facilitating multi-/bilateral interactions (such as requests for information and knowledge exchange, capacity building, operational partnerships, and other assistance/support).
