Vienna, Austria: We are delighted to announce the launch of the latest Budapest Process Briefing Paper. This looks specifically into Labour Migration Visa Regimes. This paper – written by Andrea Salvini and Georg Bolits – provides information on what determines labour migration visa regimes, namely their scope, definition and classification. Taking a case study approach, it analyses the policy options and ways forward in the current Covid-19 pandemic.
In a nutshell, “the common thread of the case studies supports the evidence that most countries organise their labour migration visa regime so that it allows different pathways to enter the labour market, reflecting the level of skills required by the vacancy, as well as geographic and cultural determinants” (page 21).
To provide context, this briefing paper presents key findings discussed during the first session of the Budapest Process Thematic Meeting held on 3-4 November 2020 on Labour Migration. It consolidates the main messages delivered by experts and also captures the discussions with all participants linked to this topic.
The paper is available in Arabic, English, Persian and Russian at this link: https://www.budapestprocess.org/resources/meeting-documents/category/3-general-documents-and-publications
